Event description

Have you ever wanted to be able to run? Would you like to exercise for FREE anytime, anywhere? Does running seem a bit too hard? Have you struggled to find a group to join due to timing being difficult?

Wyndham City Council with Wynfit Recreational Running group are organising an 11 week running course for beginners.

How to get involved:

  • Taster session (Wed 9 October) - Come and try our Session 1 - a gentle 'Intro' without committing to any more sessions. If you like it join us again the next week .. .😉
  • Parts 1 and 2: The course is in 2 parts - 5 weeks and then 6 weeks. If by week 5 you feel you have progressed far enough then be happy with this achievement, if you would like to carry on complete the final 6 weeks.
  • Join in at Part 2: If you have run before but need help to get started again, can run 8 minutes, walk 5 minutes, run 8 minutes then come and join us for Part 2.

Complete the whole 11 weeks and you will be running for 35 minutes/ close to 5k!

What is it?

  • This course is an 11 week running plan, we provide a weekly group session and you complete 2 more run-walks (homeworks) between group sessions.
  • Each week the running slowly increases helping you to become stronger and better runners, and reduce potential injury. Our course takes you to 35 minutes running, if you are interested in running a 5k this is close to the time many new runners will achieve.
  • It brings together like-minded people to make the journey together over the weeks.
  • Sessions start at 7.30pm, giving you time to get back from work/ put the kids to bed first. (please arrive 10 minutes early to check in so that the session can start on time)
  • Aged 13 years to adult, bring your teenager and do the course together!!

The group will meet by Werribee Hockey Club at Gate 3 of Presidents Park. The first 4 weeks we will use the hockey pitch and their lights. Once it gets lighter we will be able to go out and use the paths around Presidents Park.

What happens?

The sessions last up to an hour. Starting with a warm-up and some mobility exercises before the main session: a combination of running and walking. Each week the run times become longer and walking shorter. We end with a cool down and stretch. At the end of the course the group may take part in a local 5k/ parkrun together. Please ask your leader any questions at any time. Why not meet up with one of your new running buddies and tackle your 'homeworks' together?

Each week we provide you with a different exercise to help strengthen key running muscles and help to prevent injury.
