Event description

ACTIVISM FOR PALESTINE CONFERENCE 2025

When: 30th May – 1st June 2025

Where: Elements Collective (17 McLachlan St Fortitude Valley, Brisbane Central)

What: Justice for Palestine Magan-djin and BDS Youth Magan-djin invite activists from across the country to join us in Magan-djin (Brisbane) to organise for a free Palestine.

Over the past 18 months, communities across this country have taken all forms of action mobilising to end Israel’s genocide in Gaza and to dismantle its decades long apartheid and settler-colonial regime against all Palestinians. This conference will be an opportunity for all communities to come together to reflect on this critical work, and create collective strategies for ongoing, meaningful action on this continent in solidarity with the struggle for Palestinian liberation.

Secure your tickets quickly, space is limited and tickets are selling fast.

VENUE INFORMATION

ELEMENTS COLLECTIVE – 17 McLachlan St Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.

Elements Collective is an events and creative studios venue in the heart of Magan-djin (Brisbane), on unceded Yuggera and Turrbal land, that has been kindly offered by the Magan-djin creative community to host the Activism for Palestine Conference.

We are incredibly grateful to this community for providing us access to this space in the current political climate, however we wish to make all prospective conference attendees aware of some limitations around access to the venue as we are unable to meet the needs of all community members for this event.

Elements Collective has multiple spaces spilt over two stories. The first level contains several smaller spaces which will be used for workshops and as a separate “chill out” space. This level has two access points from the street, both requiring a short flight of stairs.

The second level of the building is where the all-in sessions will be held as well as some of the workshops. Access to the second floor is also by stairs only with a narrow staircase up from the street. There is a single flight of internal stairs that connects to two floors however this is a service staircase and will only be used for people whose needs are not able to be met via the external entrances.

We are deeply regretful that we cannot accommodate all community members at this event and are taking steps to provide alternative ways for those who cannot attend to access the work that will be done over the course of the weekend. We intend to record each panel and circulate workshop outcomes to the community in the weeks following the conference. We also intend to facilitate an online event following the conference and will provide further information about this in due course.

We sincerely apologise to all activists in our community who are unable to attend the conference due to the inaccessibility of the venue.

PARKING

Elements Collective does not have on-site parking and is in the middle of Fortitude Valley, so street parking around the venue is very limited. There are nearby parking centres including McWhirters Car Park on Warner St and several Secure Car Park garages on Berwick St, Conner St and Mead Lane which are all a short walk to the venue. Weekend and evening parking in these garages are at a discounted rate but still require payment that may not be accessible to all.

If you require accessible drop-off and pick-up at the venue, please contact us so we can ensure that space at the front of the venue is left vacant for your arrival and departure.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Access to Fortitude Valley on public transport is via train and bus. Those travelling by bus will require a “go card” for their fare (can be purchased from most corner stores). The trains have multiple methods for fare payment that include cash and credit/debit card.

Fortitude Valley Train Station is a 400m walk from the venue with a slight incline up Brunswick St Mall. There are multiple bus stops near the venue, particularly on Ann St and Brunswick St. The Translink Journey Planner (access here: https://jp.translink.com.au/plan-your-journey/journey-planner) is a useful tool for planning public transport routes especially for those unfamiliar with the area and transport options.

CHILD MINDING

We have limited space within the venue and so cannot provide child minding for those with children. We do intend to have a limited child minding service over the Friday evening (30th May) but space will be limited. If you need to bring your children on the Friday evening, please ensure you contact our page by end of day Thursday 29th May. We can only offer this for people who reach out to us in advance, and it will be organised on a first-come first-served basis. We apologise we cannot offer more for this event.

KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY SAFE

While there is ventilation inside the venue, we anticipate a large number of people in some spaces which will increase the risk of spreading transmittable viruses like COVID-19. We will have masks available for anyone who needs one, and encourage all who can mask to do so to ensure we are protecting those who cannot, and all members of our community. We encourage everyone to take mitigating steps regarding the spread of illness at this event, and will do our best to support this.

For any queries or concerns regarding venue access and safety, please contact Justice for Palestine Magan-djin at [email protected].
