Event description

Alongside other people from your local community, discover how small acts of kindness boost the givers’ well-being and foster greater community trust, safety, a sense of belonging and connection.

You’ll be invited to create an Acts of Kindness Diary and Kindness Cards, to equip you with tools to begin sprinkling kindness throughout your community.

Please note this workshop is intended for adult participants.


This is perfect for you if you...

- Are curious about the wellbeing habit of kindness

- Wanting to connect with people from your local community

- Would like some inspiration to begin to gift acts of kindness


What to expect:

- Some structured learning

- Reflective conversation prompts

- Time to get creative as you create kindness resources

- Chatting with others and sharing your experiences (if you are comfortable)


What to bring...

- Yourself, as you are

- Reading glasses if you need them

- An open heart and open mind

You’ll receive notes on the topic and all the materials for creating a kindness diary and cards are supplied.

This creative workshop is part of the Creative Flourishing series all about connection, community and you! We’ll explore the topics of gratefulness, the art of saying thank you, community connection and acts of kindness to bring us closer and boost our well-being.

You’re welcome to attend them all, attend just one, or however many you choose.

The experiences are:

1. Cultivating Gratefulness and Grateful Journal Making – August 29th – 12 pm to 2 pm

    Discover the magic of grateful living! We’ll explore how expressing gratitude can strengthen bonds and brighten our communities. Plus, you’ll craft your very own gratefulness journal to take home.

    2. The Art of Saying Thank You and Thank You Card Making – September 26th – 1 pm to 3 pm

      In this digital age, a handmade “Thank You Card” is a delightful gesture.

      Join us to learn about the well-being science and the “how” of saying “Thank You” and create beautiful, heartfelt “Thank You Cards” that spread joy to both the giver and the receiver and foster a deeper sense of connection.


      3. Your Vision for A Thriving Community and Vision Boarding – October 31st – 12 pm to 2 pm

        Let your creative juices flow as you open to creating a free-flowing vision board, with a lens on what a thriving connected community means and looks like to you.

        Vision boarding is a great way to clarify thinking on a particular topic.


        4. Acts of Kindness and Kindness Calendar Making – November 21st – 12 pm to 2 pm

          Discover how small acts of kindness boost the givers’ well-being and foster greater community trust, safety, a sense of belonging and connection.

          Create an Acts of Kindness Diary and start sprinkling acts of kindness throughout your community.

          The Facilitator

          This experience will be facilitated by Befriend’s Community Enrichment Facilitator, Karen Haddon who has a wealth of experience in positive psychology and human flourishing. Karen has worked with elite sports teams, and people affected by cancer and other chronic health conditions. She has trained teachers in hundreds of primary schools across Australia to bring positive social and emotional well-being curriculums into their classrooms and, worked with Aboriginal youth workers in the Pilbara empowering them to engage Aboriginal youth in positive social and emotional well-being habits.

          Karen’s colleagues and people who have taken courses with her describe Karen as compassionate, calming, and knowledgeable, someone who practices what she teaches and brings out the best in those around her.
