Shaping a Resilient Future: Community solutions for climate adaptation
Event description
Why is this topic important?
Changing climate patterns and increasing severe weather pose a significant threat to our communities and the environments in which we live.
But there are things we can do to reduce the impacts and have a good future.
This forum will explore how you and your community can respond to the challenges and impacts of climate change. We'll also consider things that congregations, and community organisations like Uniting can do to help their local communities adapt to our changing climate.
Who should attend?
The forum is aimed at Uniting Church members and congregations as well as Uniting staff and programs. But all interested people are welcome.
Our guest speaker
Our Guest Speaker is Catherine Kerr, Manager of Adaptation Knowledge at Adapt NSW, in the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
Catherine will cover:
· The NSW government’s strategy and plans for helping communities adapt to climate change
· The main climate risks and adaptation challenges we face, and how they vary from place to place.
· The supports and resources Adapt NSW provides and how they can be accessed
· What communities can do themselves to adapt to and reduce the risks of climate change and extreme weather, and how congregations and community services can help.
There will be time for questions and hearing from one another.
