Adelaide Big Ideas Challenge 2024

With mounting evidence from experts of the adverse impact of social media on children, their mental health and development, the South Australian government is considering banning children under 14 from having social media accounts in South Australia.

In the second Adelaide Big Ideas Challenge for 2024, Future Anything will empower young people themselves to ideate, prototype and pitch their own innovative solutions to help them and their peers stay safe online. 

Powered by Future Anything, and thanks to the generous support of the Commissioner for Children & Young People this will be a fast-paced and hands-on day of listening, learning, and doing. 

It's set to be an engaging and real-world learning experience for young people in Years 7-9. Students will hear from some of Australia’s most inspiring changemakers, and explicitly develop their enterprising thinking and human-centered design skills.

TICKETS & WHO SHOULD ATTEND

• The event is designed for school groups of students in Years 7-9 (Students may not attend individually)
• Up to 20 student tickets are available per school in total. If you require additional tickets, please indicate this when registering and we will let you know if additional tickets become available. Educators/supervisors go free. 

Schools with a ICSEA* Value <1000: Early Bird: Free Full Price: $29+GST per student

Schools with an ICESA* Value >1000: Early Bird: $16+GST per student Full Price : $29+GST per student

KEY TIMINGS:

• 8.15am - 8.45am - Schools/students arrive & register 
• 9am (PROMPT) - EVENT STARTS
• 9am - 10:30am: Session 1
• 10:30 - 11am: Break
• 11am - 12:30pm: Session 2
• 12.30pm –1pm: Break participants should bring their own lunch)
• 1pm  - 2.30pm: Session 3
• 2.30pm:  EVENT ENDS 
• A detailed agenda will be shared with all registered schools closer to the time. 

VENUE & TRANSPORT:

The event will take place at the stunning Adelaide Festival Centre - Banquet Room. 

Schools are required to organise and manage their own transport requirements for students and supervising staff/parents attending the event. Please ensure your travel plans enable you to arrive in good time for the start and stay for the whole event. 

PERMISSIONS & SUPERVISION:

Each participating school should manage risk assessment & parent permissions according to their own policies, and ensure a suitable level of staff supervision for their students attending the event. While participating teachers/parents will not be required to formally facilitate the sessions, their engagement in the activities will increase teachers’ skills and confidence in unlocking students’ enterprising mindsets in their classrooms. WHAT STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:

• Their own refillable water bottle
• Lunch, and morning/afternoon tea (if required) as no catering is provided.
• Students are required to wear their school uniform
