Adopt a Tree 2025
Event description
Our Adopt a Tree program returns for its third year!
We have over 240 semi-mature trees to give to residents within the Penrith LGA to help increase tree canopy. While Penrith has seen a significant increase in tree canopy over the last few years, even establishing itself as a leader among other local government areas, we still have suburbs that have low canopy and are susceptible to heat during the hotter months.
Increasing trees on private property can:
- provide shade and help passively cool homes during summer
- attract birdlife and pollinator species to your garden
- improve and support Penrith’s unique biodiversity
There will be four species to choose from:
- Callistemon (Bottlebrush)
- Melaleuca (Black tea tree)
- Syzygium smithii (Lilly pilly)
- Acacia (Wattle)
These trees were grown locally at the Penrith Council Nursery.
Select the species and pick-up time to secure your tree when choosing your ticket. Only select one timeslot.

Terms and conditions:
- Each participant must be a resident of the Penrith Local Government Area.
- Maximum of one tree per household.
- Trees are not to be planted on the Council-owned nature strip. Trees must be planted on private property. Refer to the tree brochure provided for guidelines on planting on private land.
- Planting and ongoing maintenance of the tree is the responsibility of the resident of the property address where the tree is planted.
- Trees are supplied in pots around 200mm and may be over 1 m tall. Residents are required to pick up their trees from 9am to 2pm on Sunday 25 May 2025.
In the instance residents cannot pick up their trees, Council may arrange delivery for residents who are unable to collect their tree on this date. A valid reason must be provided for Council delivery.
If an allocated tree is not collected at your scheduled time, it may be reallocated to the next eligible participant.
- Council requires proof of consent from the landlord or managing property agent if the tree is planned for planting at a rental property. This is to avoid future conflict between tenants and property owners and reduce the potential of the trees needing removal.
- Council recommends that registered participants conduct a dial-before-you-dig before planting to ensure the tree will not cause any disruptions to underground pipes and services. Click here to visit the NSW Dial-Before-You-Dig website.
- A recent rates notice or proof of address must be shown at the tree collection point when picking up the tree.
