Contemporary dance blends elements of multiple dance styles and lets dancers express emotionality through movements and breath. Learn about the importance of contemporary dance as an art form through a brief exploration of its history, influences, and techniques. Contemporary dance embodies ballet, modern, jazz and lyrical. It uses a technique such as ballet as its fundamentals and creates many more movements that do not adhere to the strict rules of ballet and modern. There are different categories of contemporary dance such as Contemporary Ballet and Contemporary Jazz.

During our course we are going to work on:

- Working on different types of Contemporary technique such as; Martham Graham, Horton Technique, Contemporary Jazz,

- Guest Teachers

- Choreography Performance

STRUCTURED IMPROVISATION

In this class you will be given guided tools to understand your body and find different ways in which your body can move. The class will start with slow movement and tools to guide you in, and progressively build throughout the hour. Improvisation sparks creativity and allows your mind to broaden into new ways of moving, which can help with choreography development, there is no right or wrong, only discovering and open mindedness. It’s a class full of creativity, play and pure enjoyment of movement through dance.

CONTEMPORARY/FLOORWORK

You will learn how to roll and move on the floor and then learn how to transition safely and smoothly in and out of the floor. The class will incorporate acrobatics that smoothly transitions in and out of the floor

What you will need:

CONTEMPORARY JAZZ

Connect fluid movement to breath and harmonize the body and the mind through My jazz foundation is Commercial jazz, Broadway jazz, JFH (jazz/funk hip-hop), lyrical jazz – basically every form of jazz.

Real jazz is athletic and sexy, it’s full of energy and grit, it’s sweaty and exhausting, from the sensuality of Fosse to the strength of A Chorus Line.
