Advanced birdwatching: bird surveys and citizen science at Myponga Reservoir Reserve

Do you have an active interest in birdwatching and want to learn more about recording bird diversity across different habitats?

Join us together with Nature Play SA at Myponga Reservoir Reserve for an advanced birdwatching session focused on bird surveys and citizen science. We’ll explore how birds use different parts of the reserve and take part in structured surveys to help build baseline data for habitat restoration.

After introductions, an Acknowledgement of Country and an overview of Reservoirs for Nature, we’ll discuss bird diversity across transition zones and consider what bird behaviour and calls can tell us about the surrounding environment.

We’ll then work through various survey methods and put them into practice.

The session will also include ecological storytelling and an introduction to Birdata and digital methods for recording observations.

This session is intended for people with an active interest in birdwatching. Some familiarity with identifying birds will be helpful.

What’s included:

· Learn about recognised bird survey methods and how to use them in the field.

· Take part in surveys across different habitats at Myponga Reservoir Reserve.

· Learn how to record observations using digital data methods.

· Hear ecological stories about birds and their habitats.

· Binoculars provided if needed.

· Resources to use during the session and take home.

Places are limited and registrations are essential.

This event is part of our climate change and biodiversity initiative, Reservoirs for Nature, which is restoring habitat at Myponga and Mount Bold Reservoir Reserves to support the recovery of threatened species.
