Event description

Collaborative formulation is an essential skill for any treating psychologist. This workshop will aim to enhance your skills in collaboratively developing formulations with clients so they get thorough tailored psychoeducation and treatment rationales. This will help rapid development of rapport, motivation for treatment, and a clear treatment plan. Flexible approaches can be used to make the process very neuroaffirming.

The workshop will show how formulation diagrams can be quickly sketched out with clients, including templates like:
- spiderweb
- ABC
- problem maintaining circles/vicious cycles
- schema/core belief/other underlying drivers
- parts model
- logic/emotion/wise mind
- values & activities
- social circles
- comfort zone
- inside/outside your control
- road map for goals

These formulations are transdiagnostic, and draw on evidence-based theories used in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Committent Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing.

In the true spirit of collaboration, we also request that you bring your own commonly used templates to share, so we may all add more tools to our formulation toolkits.
