About the Workshop

Have you been playing Native American Flute for a while and want to up-level your playing?

Do you have a good foundations on the flute, desire to play with more intricate and soulful expression?

In this workshop, Sunshine Coast Based Musician, Flute Player, and Teacher, Troy Chapman, takes a small group of Native American Flute Players on a wild and wonderful journey into Advanced Native American flute Skills.

Workshop Structure

There are multiple techniques / Embellishments being taught in this workshop. In order to truly embody and integrate the techniques, it's recommended to practice them regularly over several months.

Structure of the Workshop:

Day 1 - November 1st 2pm-4:30 pm Techniques Introduced

Day 2 - November 29th 2pm - 4:30 pm Checking Integration & Questions

(Day 2 can be taken as a 30 Minute private lesson if you can't make the date.)

When: Sunday November 1st, 2-4PM / Sunday November 29th 2-4PM.

Where:

The workshop is at a private Cootharaba Address to be provided after booking.

We will have plenty of space to sit outside under a tree and find our sweet spot with the practices during regular practice breaks.

Who: This workshop is suitable for flute players who already have a solid grasp of the foundations and want to learn all the tricky stuff to bring more depth and expression to their playing.

Some things you will Learn / Experience:

• Learn a series of 10 special effects to bring color and depth your flute playing

• Play along with a beat

• Deepen your playing into a feeling / emotional expression.

• Play along with a guitar / Drum

• How to practice the special effects in and out of scales.

• We'll brush over the basics of moving around the flute and getting a solid sound before launching into the advanced stuff to ensure all students are with us on the flute train.

• A safe space to learn and connect with like minded students of the Native American Flute.

• All students will receive an e-book copy of the techniques taught in the class.

Prerequisites:

Must have a foundation on the Native American Flute already, including:

• Own your own flute and bring it to the workshop.

• Feel confident to move around the flute and get a solid sound on the sound holes.

Bookings:

Please book early, as places are strictly limited to 12. Private lessons are also available at $90 per hour.

What to Bring:

• Yourself

• A fold up chair

• Comfortable Loose Clothing

• Your Flute

• Water-bottle

• Your Flute (This workshop is for existing players of flute and flutes will not be provided here)

• Notepad / Paper if you want to take notes.

Flutes

It is required to bring your own flute to the workshop. Some Bamboo Native American Style Flutes will be available for sale also at the end of the workshop.

About Troy:

Troy's flute journey started on Irish / Tin Whistle, where he learned a fantastic foundation of flute skills which can be directly carried across to the Native American Style Flute, which he has been playing since 2009. Troy has performed in Sound Journeys, Recorded Tracks, and taught Flute since 2016. Troy is an experienced teacher of Flute, tin whistle, & didgeridoo and is skilled at matching his instruction with the needs of the students.
