Speaker: Prof. Nirit Bernstein, Senior Researcher, Head of a Medical Cannabis Physiology and Agrinomy Lab, Volcani Institute - Agricultural Research Organization of Israel.

Seminar Title: Advances in Mineral Nutrition of Medical Cannabid Plants

Moderator: Jo Savill, University of Queensland

Prof. Nirit Bernstein is a principal research scientist, Head of the Cannabis Physiology and Agronomy Lab, at Volcani Institute of Agricultural Research, Israel. Her research focuses on cannabis plant science, and development of cultivation techniques for Cannabis sativa. She has a Ph.D from the University of California, Davis USA, and a B.Sc. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. She is an associate editor of 'Journal of Cannabis research', and a member of editorial boards of 9 international scientific journals, and she published more than 130 peer reviewed manuscripts, invited reviews and book chapters. In recognition of her international impact and leadership in cannabis research, she was recently awarded 6 international awards, including: The ‘ElSohly Award’ for excellence in cannabis chemistry, by the American Chemical Society, 2022; the ‘International Agronomy award’ by the American Society of Agronomy, 2022; and the ‘Outstanding International Horticulturalist Award’, by the American Society of Horticultural Science, 2023. Prof. Bernstein specializes in regulation of plant-derived pharmaceuticals in medicinal plants by manipulation of agronomic treatments; optimization of agrotechniques for environmentally stressed plants; and mineral nutrition of plants.
