New Zealand manufacturers are facing some unique R&D hurdles.

Advancing Manufacturing Aotearoa surveyed over 100 manufacturers, and here's what we found out:

Only 39% of the manufacturers we surveyed are using the Research and Development Tax Incentive (RDTI).
The remaining 61% aren't, mainly because it's complicated or they don't know much about it.

Here's what we learned:
- Almost 90% of those using RDTI say it's a big help financially
- Half of those not using it aren't sure if they qualify
- 46% think the process is too tricky to figure out

There are a couple of misunderstandings going around:
- Some think RDTI is just for research, but it's actually more about design and development.
- Others believe process improvements don't count, but they often do, especially when you're tackling technical challenges.
