Advent 2026 at St James' King Street
Description
This Advent we will focus on the experience and embrace of the Other amidst political conflict and personal terror, noticing some elements of the Advent story that are often overlooked and drawing them into a broader story of flight, statelessness, and the search for asylum.
We will begin meeting the week before Advent Sunday (29th November), during the four weeks beginning 22nd and 29th November and 7th and 14th December.
Our four weeks of advent will each focus on a phase of the refugee experience: Flight imperative at whatever cost; Journeys of flight; Shocks and solaces of arrival; Seeking inclusion and remaking home. Each week there will be a psalm, a second Scripture passage, and an excerpt from a refugee memoir, together with brief commentary, questions for reflections, and a prayer.
There will be no cost for these materials, which have been drafted by parishioners Janet Donald and Jamie Dunk, but you are most welcome to make a donation to the St James' Institute.
In-person and online groups are listed below. Please register for your preferred group by selecting a ticket at the next step. If a group is not able to to run for want of enrolments, you'll be contacted about an alternative.
