Advocacy vs Impartiality: Should scientists stand up as things fall down?
In our rapidly changing world, there has never been a more important time for science to be
objective. However, has the time come for scientists themselves to be more human? Many
scientists have knowledge and understanding that could help the public and policy-makers, if
only they were allowed to speak out. As climate change, biodiversity depletion, and pollution
threaten to make our world feel increasingly hostile, should scientists to take a stronger
stand in the public eye?
Speakers: Alexandra de Blas (Moderator) – Science Communicator; Louise Cherrie – Environmental Management Consultant; Dr. Lila Landowski – Neuroscientist, College of Health and Medicine, UTAS and Director, Science and Technology Australia; Hon. Meg Webb – Independent Member, Tasmanian Legislative Council; Robyn Williams – Host, The Science Show, ABC Radio National
This panel discussion is organised by the Tasmanian Independent Science Council. Ticket prices include coffee, tea, and pastries.
