The TK, Gote, and You! Presented by Kaa, Fynch, and SirSugar:

    1. History of Rope and Hojojutsu
Fynch will start start the weekend by discussing the history of Kinbaku and the origins of the TK. This part will be informational and discuss the lineage of Kinbaku and follow through into the art that we know today. Kaa will lead the second half of the class which delves into the influence of Hojojutsu and how those forms are incorporated into the Gote that we know today. This will be a hands-on tie-along. These ties can stand independently as fun and challenging floor ties,

    2. Old School Gotes

Kaa will start with ‘Old School’ Gotes. He’ll focus on the original forms Gotes took and influences by famous Kinbakushi such as Nureki Chimou and Naka Akira. After covering the history of Old School Gotes, attendees will have the opportunity to tie an gote in old school style.

    3. Open Lab Time

During this time, the space will remain open for Bight Night style labbing and socializing. Instructors will be available for one on one guidance as well. Attendees are also welcome to leave to take a lengthier dinner break if they'd like. No new content will be presented during this time.

    4. Sunday- New School Gotes

Fynch will cover ‘New School’ Gotes. She’ll discuss the advantages of these harnesses and the application of these principles in her gote variation. These Gotes are most influenced by famous Kinbakushi such as Akechi Denki, Kazami Ranki, and Akechi Kanna. After covering the history of New School Gotes, attendees will have the opportunity to tie an gote in new school style.

Throughout the weekend, we’ll focus on the needs of bottoms in rope. We’ll discuss customizing Gotes for hypermobility, lack of flexibility, those who need more support, and those who need less. We approach rope with the mentality of ‘Tie your bottom, not someone else’s tie.’ Rope is not one size fits all, and this intensive revolves around the concept of customizing gotes for the individuals we tie.

    Pre-requisites and Supplies Needed:

    • ID for age verification at check if
    • If you would like to participate in hands-on learning, please plan to bring a partner to tie. This course, while informational and highly encouraged, would be challenging for self tiers to tie along. Solo attendees may partner up (though a partner can't be guaranteed) or audit by watching and taking notes rather than participating.
    • 4-6 hanks of rope and safety cutting device, water, and a way to take notes.
    • Creature comforts (note taking supplies, blanket, etc)

No experience is needed to attend this intensive, though Rope 101 (offered every month at Bight Night) is a great way to learn basic rope skills and knowledge to prepare for this class.

    About the Presenters:

Fynch, a national rope presenter, has been tying, being tied, and teaching for over 12 years. With a dedication to education and empowering all people and bodies in rope, she can be found at various events throughout the US.

Kaa has been an avid Kinbaku/shibari practitioner and educator since 2008. He is the founding member of the now defunct Indy Rope Group, former Co-Presenter for Rope Bite Indy, and has been given the privilege to present, teach, and perform in the greater Tri-State (In, Oh, Ky) area and beyond. He is passionate about not only practicing Kinbaku/Shibari, but also spreading knowledge to those who wish to learn.

SirSugar has been tying since 2018 with multiple riggers both privately and as a performer beginning in 2020. She co-taught as a bottom for weekly rope classes from 2020-2022. After beginning her tying journey with Fynch in 2022, she has thoroughly decided her favorite thing to tell Fynch before tying is, "Tie me like you love me."

Performance and Rope After Dark Play Party

Kaa, Fynch, and SirSugar will open the party with a rope performance that will last from about 8-9 pm. After the performance, the space will be open for socializing and play as usual.

Any play (within LNK venue guidelines) is welcome at this party! Party rules can be reviewed at louisvillenk.com/rules. At this party, the venue will be set up with rope in mind. Extra floor play space and hardpoints will be set up, though the usual furniture (crosses, benches, etc) will be available too. Have a question at the party or need some help making the space work for your scene? Talk to an event team member, identifiable by their bright yellow lanyards and safety shears!

    Our venue offers:

    • play furniture (A frame style rigs, athletic mats, spanking benches, St. Andrews style crosses, etc)
    • luggage racks to store personal items and equipment
    • social area
    • snack bar and Keurig machine (food and beverage can also be brought in)
    • after-care/quiet area
    • outdoor smoking area
    • single occupancy bathroom
    • Free and ample paved parking within a couple minutes walk of the space. Handicapped parking is available directly beside the space. Please check the parking map in the ticket confirmation for detailed parking instructions!

Is this your first time? Don't worry, we'll be gentle! An event team member will give you a welcome orientation tour to show you with the space layout and highlight some of the most important rules and etiquette!
