Agave 101: Understanding Tequila, Mezcal and Agave Spirit

Tequila is the most well-known agave spirit, but there are also Mezcal, Raicilla, Bacanora, and Sotol.

Become an expert on the many styles of Agave Spirits produced in every corner of Mexico, learning what makes each one beautifully unique!

 Agave Expert Howie Baynie (co owner of Estancia Raicilla Distillery in Mexico  and Agave Lux Importing Company) will take us on an exploration into the celebrated agave plant.  We will learn It's various species, and their utilization throughout the spirit world. Howie will showcase the predominant styles of Agave Spirits (including Tequila, Mezcal, Bacanora, Raicilla, and more), where and how they’re produced throughout Mexico, how those factors influence what’s in the glass, and what makes each beautifully distinct.
We will get to taste 7  agave spirits, while learning about the fundamentals of tasting, discussing the predominant flavour characteristics of each style, and what to look for in agave spirits of superior quality. Grazing platters will accompany the tasting.
