Speaker 1: Dr. Syed Mohammed Shamsul Islam

Dr Islam is Senior Member of IEEE, and a Senior Lecturer and a member of the Centre for artificial intelligence and Machine Learning at School of Science in Edith Cowan University. Graduating from The University of Western Australia (UWA) with a PhD with Distinction in 2011, he worked at UWA and Curtin University in the past. Apart from his excellence in teaching and research with publication of over 80 scholarly articles, supervision of 11 HDR students to completion, grants over $3.8 million, tens of public media releases, and multiple awards (including ECU High Achieving Researcher Award 2021, and four best paper awards), Dr Islam has been actively serving the professional community as the Chair Signal Processing Society Chapter of IEEE WA Section, an Associate Editor of IEEE Access, a Guest Editor of Applied Sciences, a regular reviewer of CVPR, EECV, WACV conferences and 10+ Q1 journals, Organising Committee member of over 13 conferences (including General Chair of DICTA 2024) and Technical Committee member of over 35 conferences. Dr Islam is also serving as a University Contact Officer at ECU since 2020.

Speaker 2: Dr Miriam Sullivan

Dr Miriam Sullivan is the Manager, Educational Integrity at ECU. Her portfolio includes the Academic Integrity Module and other academic integrity resources, and she is part of the panels that makes decisions about serious academic misconduct cases, and her portfolio includes the Academic Integrity Module. Miriam has a keen interest in generative AI and how students can use it to support their learning. She has co-authored two articles on attitudes towards generative AI use.

Speaker 3: Saiyidi Mat Roni

Dr. Saiyidi Mat Roni is an academic in accounting and finance. He has over 20 years of experience teaching primarily accounting information systems. He is the lead author of two books in statistical analysis published by Springer which have a cumulative 61,000 downloads. Saiyidi teaches business analytics and have been actively working with large language models. Dr Mat Roni is also a member of the University working group on AI for Research and Research Training.
