Description

Generative AI has been shown to craft essays and polish prose in seconds with increasing accuracy and sophistication. But what does that do to the slow work through which writers find their voice, their argument, and their thinking? This workshop moves past the familiar productivity-versus-integrity debate to a more useful question: when each AI shortcut arrives twinned with a new obligation, how do educators and students co-decide what's worth carrying forward in how we write, read, and learn together, and what to leave behind? Treating prompting and AI critique as extensions of values writing has always prized, we'll explore human-centred practices that keep long-form writing meaningful and authentically owned.

This workshop is open to educators, teaching and learning staff, HDR students and supervisors from across the higher education sector.

Learning objectives

Engaging with this workshop will help you to:

  • Reframe AI's role in long-form writing through a practical lens pairing each efficiency gain with a companion discipline.

  • Scaffold support for novice writers to recognise writing and reading as developmental, relational work.

  • Apply concrete, transferable practices that move writing from a solitary act toward trust-based, dialogic learning..
