Description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Crossroads: Education, Truth, Security and Creativity
Hosted by the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) and the College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities, and featuring experts from across Adelaide University, AI at the Crossroads explores AI's impact across four critical areas: education, truth, security, and creativity.
Artificial intelligence is reshaping the way we communicate, learn, work, and live. But as AI becomes more powerful and more deeply embedded in everyday life, it also raises some enormous questions.
How will AI continue to shape society in Australia and around the world? What opportunities will it create and what risks should we prepare for?
Featuring experts from across Adelaide University, AI at the Crossroads explores what AI means across four key areas: education, truth, security, and creativity.
Dr Victoria Fielding will explore the growing impact of AI on disinformation and what it means for public discourse and democracy. A Senior Lecturer in AU's School of Communication, Media and Journalism, Dr Fielding is an expert in strategic communication and the influence of media on democracy.
Professor Javen Shi will turn the spotlight to education, exploring how AI is changing the sector and what these changes could mean for the future of teaching and learning. Professor Shi is the Founding Director of the Causal AI Group, Interim Director of the Responsible AI Research Centre, and a Director in Advanced Reasoning and Learning at AIML.
Dr Lia Song will examine current and emerging AI security risks, including the potential impact of malicious content and applications on systems around the world. A Lecturer in AU's School of Computer Science and Information Technology, Dr Song researches trustworthy machine learning and reliable AI systems.
Associate Professor Bronwyn Law Viljoen will discuss how AI is changing our relationship with creative practice. From the School of Humanities, Associate Professor Law Viljoen’s research explores the relationship between image and text, writing and visual art, contemporary poetry, and contemporary literary fiction.
The Honourable Chris Picton, MP, South Australian Minister for Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Economy, will deliver the Welcome for attendees. Join the conversation, ask questions, and share your perspective on where AI is taking us at this thought-provoking and significant event.
