About

The National Centre for Cultural Competence (NCCC) at the University of Sydney is pleased to present the AI, Equity and Ethics in Research Symposium, bringing together researchers, practitioners and thought leaders to explore the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities emerging at the intersection of artificial intelligence, research and cultural competence.

Through keynote addresses, selected presentations, roundtable discussions and practical activities, the symposium will examine the promises, limits and risks of AI for knowledge-making, representation, participation and decision-making.

Together, we will consider how AI might support culturally competent, ethical and socially responsible research and practice, while critically examining where it may reproduce or intensify bias, discrimination and exclusion.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Toby Walsh, a leading AI researcher and Chief Scientist at UNSW.ai, as the symposium’s keynote speaker. Professor Walsh is internationally recognised for his work on artificial intelligence and its social and ethical implications, and will bring an important perspective to the day’s conversations about the future of AI and responsible innovation.

Whether you are already working with AI or are beginning to consider its implications for your research and practice, the symposium offers an opportunity to engage with critical questions, exchange perspectives and contribute to conversations about more equitable and responsible approaches to AI.

Register now to secure your place. Tickets are limited.

If you would like the opportunity to present a paper at the symposium, please click HERE, or any questions, please contact Dr Amy McHugh at nccc@sydney.edu.au
