AI for Open-Source Research: a hands-on workshop
Description
Use AI with confidence in open-source research and investigative workflows.
Generative AI is changing how research and investigations are conducted. Used well, it helps analysts process information faster, identify patterns across large datasets and improve research workflows. Used poorly, it introduces hallucinations, unsupported claims and analytical risk.
This practical, instructor-led workshop is built for intelligence professionals, investigators, researchers and security practitioners who want to apply AI effectively while maintaining analytical rigour and sound judgement.
Rather than focusing on theory or a single AI platform, you'll learn repeatable techniques that apply across leading AI models and integrate into real investigative and research workflows.
The workshop runs live across two half-days, so you can attend without clearing two full days from your calendar, and so practitioners across the Asia-Pacific can join within working hours. You'll apply what you learn on day one before day two begins.
One ticket covers the whole workshop: two live online sessions of 3.5 hours each, on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 November 2026. The date at the top of this page runs from the start of session one to the end of session two, but you only need to be online for the two sessions listed below.
What you'll learn
Across the two sessions you'll work through hands-on exercises using realistic scenarios to learn how to:
Select appropriate AI models and workflows for different research tasks
Design prompts, context and custom instructions that improve AI outputs
Use AI to assist collection at scale, and recognise where platform terms, agency policy and law set the limit
Turn unstructured material into entities, relationships, themes, claims and information gaps you can query
Evaluate AI outputs for reliability, bias, hallucinations and unsupported inference
Day two closes with a capstone activity that runs the full workflow end to end.
What's included
Your registration includes:
OSINT Combine's self-paced AI Essentials online course, completed before the workshop
Two live instructor-led half-days, approximately 6.5 hours of instruction
Hands-on exercises and guided labs
Resource pack, prompt library and custom GPTs
Offline AI guidance for constrained environments
Certificate of completion
