AIYA Victoria x Asia Institute - Indonesian Studies in Action
Event description
AIYA Victoria is proud to be collaborating the Asia Institute (University of Melbourne) to bring you the panel discussion, Indonesian Studies in Action!
In this panel discussion, past and present students of the Indonesian Studies Program are in conversation with Dr Ken Setiawan (Convenor, Indonesian Studies). Contrasting with the trend that the study of Indonesian is in decline across Australian universities, this panel focuses on experiences of students who are studying or have studied Indonesian. What was their motivation to study Indonesian at university and why did they persist? What experiences stood out to them? What are the strengths of the Indonesian studies program? Where has the study of Indonesian taken them after university? And what can be done to improve the uptake of studying Indonesian at the tertiary level?
Our panellists include:
- Angus Baranikow - AIYA Victoria Chapter President.
- Grace Fisher - Education Officer at AIYA Victoria and Bachelor of Science Student at the University of Melbourne.
- Darcy Murphy - VCE Indonesian Teacher and Partnerships Officer at AIYA National.
- Isobel Grounds - Juris Doctor (JD) Student at the University of Melbourne.
Whether you are a university student currently undertaking Indonesian studies or are interesting in learning more about the benefits and opportunities that such programs provide, this panel discussion will answer any and all questions you may have!
Snacks and refreshments are included.
Please arrive at the venue at 4:45pm for a 5pm start.
