AKL: Morning People Tāmaki Makaurau feat. Sub Sahara at HI-SO
Event description
AKL: Morning People Tāmaki Makaurau feat. Sub Sahara at HI-SO!
We loved partying in the clouds so much, we’re doing it again, this time 16 floors up at HI-SO, featuring Sub Sahara!
Originally from Aotearoa, multi-genre DJ Sub Sahara has spent the last couple of years exploring the clubs, festivals and scenes of Berlin and London. Returning home for the 2024 summer, this will be her first show back (and the day after her birthday no less!)
Deeply committed to creating inclusive spaces, Sub Sahara celebrates black, indigenous and queer identities, recognising the vital role these communities play in shaping dance music culture. She believes that these dance spaces are essential for marginalised groups, serving as havens for connection, expression, and empowerment.
Much like Morning People, her work fosters a sense of belonging and encourages strong community bonds, reminding us of the transformative power of music and movement. Each performance invites audiences to explore the richness of diverse musical narratives, the importance of solidarity within the dance music landscape and most importantly a deeper connection to oneself.
Taking inspiration from the roots of dance music, expect a high energy set from across the dancey spectrum, including house, techno, breaks, ballroom (!), electro and hardgroove.
Don’t miss your chance to party with Sub Sahara, 16 stories up as the sun rises across the Waitematā.
Get in quick if you want to join the fun!
As ever, Morning People dance-floor goodness will be served alongside complimentary Altezano Brothers Coffee, ice-cold Karma Kombucha, feel-good fair-trade bananas from All Good, and snacky tidbits and treats thanks to HI-SO.

Alcohol-free, dress to sweat.
