Alderson Awards 2024

The Alderson Awards celebrate the achievements of people with Down syndrome and intellectual disability in the Canberra community and surrounds. Several awards will be presented on the night including awards for personal achievement along with a community contribution award.

Nominations for the 2024 awards are now open! Categories are:

• 0 - 12 Years Tying their shoes by themselves, starting school, receiving an award at school or other extracurricular activity, learning to walk, or saying their first word.
  There is no winner for this category, all nominees will be called to the stage and have their achievement celebrated by the community.

• 13 -17 Years Finishing school or achieving a good school report, confidently catching public transport, learning how to play a new sport or instrument, getting a job or volunteering for an organisation. There will be one overall winner for this category, however all nominees will be called to the stage to have their achievement celebrated by the community.

• 18 Years + Finishing school or achieving a good school report, confidently catching public transport, learning how to play a new sport or instrument, getting a job or volunteering for an organisation. There will be one overall winner for this category, however all nominees will be called to the stage to have their achievement celebrated by the community.

• Community award This category is open to the wider ACT Community. Examples of nominations can be for providing meaningful employment to a person with Down Syndrome or an intellectual disability, providing work experience or volunteering opportunities to a person with Down Syndrome or an intellectual disability, providing education or training to a person with Down Syndrome or intellectual disability, their families, friends, or support people. There will be one overall winner for this category, however all nominees will be called to the stage to have their achievement celebrated by the community.
