Alexander Technique classes for Con musicians through CSA

Alexander Technique (AT) is a form of kinaesthetic training which is used worldwide by musicians. In these classes, players will learn how to organize optimal balance and efficient movement patterns for their instrument, and how to access power and intensity for playing without stiffening muscles and using unnecessary force. There is some research to show that AT can help in preventing the kinds of injuries musicians are susceptible to.

Janet Davies is highly experienced AT teacher, who has developed a method where the principles of AT are clarified so they are directly applicable to playing. As well as Conservatorium students, Janet teaches AT to musicians of the Sydney Symphony and Opera Australia Orchestras. As a researcher, she has published on risk factors for playing-related injuries and the effects of purpose-designed AT classes for tertiary and professional musicians.

The course is open to AT beginners and continuers.
