Alfredson's Joinery Tour
Event description
The railway arrived in Cooran from Gympie in June 1889, spurring the district’s growth as an agricultural and timber hub. Shops soon sprang up along King Street opposite the line, and by 1933, Alfredson’s joinery, pre-cut house fabrication workshop, and sawmill was underway.
Spanning 65 metres long, 13 metres wide, over three levels, the building produced over 1,200 pre-cut houses by the mid-1960s. Though the pre-cut house business ended in the mid-1980s, the building has continued to evolve: the King Street frontage now houses Noosa Hinterland Brewing Company, while Al Guymer has maintained a joinery workshop and base for building and demolition work since 1990.
Guymer’s historic collection of woodworking tools and construction equipment keeps the building’s industrial heritage alive, complementing its original purpose and aesthetic. Take a tour and get a true glimpse into Cooran’s timber history!
