Alison Pouliot - The Dark Web: A Foray in the Fungal Underground.
Event description
Batesford, Fyansford, Stonehaven Landcare and Geelong Landcare Network invite you to a special presentation titled The Dark Web: A Foray in the Fungal Underground. Our guest speaker Alison Pouliot is a celebrated ecologist, fungi expert, (mycologist), and professional environmental photographer. Once overlooked, fungi are the exhilarating new poster organisms reconfiguring our understanding of the natural word and capturing the public imagination. Alison will share insights from over two decades spent in the field with fungi in both northern and southern hemispheres, along with some stories of her adventures during the making of her recent book, Funga Obscura – Photo Journeys Among Fungi.
Alison reconfigures our understanding of the natural word, capturing the public imagination as she reveals the way in which Fungi underpin terrestrial ecosystems, forming cross-kingdom collaborations with countless creatures and intimately entwining with plants. Although these unruly fungal renegades contravene the frameworks we use to understand life, they might also inspire the innovative thinking needed to navigate an uncertain future.
Alison is author of The Allure of Fungi, Wild Mushrooming, Underground Lovers, Meetings with Remarkable Mushrooms, Funga Obscura and Mushroom Day (in press).www.alisonpouliot.com Her books will be available for purchase.
(Drinks can be purchased at the bar in the Moorabool Room and finger food will be available courtesy of Landcare. If you wish to book for dinner after the talk please do so via this link https://www.thebatesfordhotel.com.au/contact/)
