Ethics classes: helping children think, listen and reason together

Children love asking big questions: What’s fair? Why do people do that? Is it ever okay to break a promise? Ethics classes turn those questions into thoughtful discussions.

Are you curious about what happens in an ethics class? Is your child about to start school, or already attending ethics classes? Or maybe you’ve seen “Ethics” on an enrolment form and wondered what it means?

Ethics lessons give children a safe space to ask questions, share their opinions and consider different points of view. Students sit in a circle and learn from each other through guided discussion. They practise listening, giving reasons for what they think, and disagreeing respectfully. Ethics classes run in NSW public schools from Kindergarten to Year 8.

Join us for a 1-hour online information session to find out how ethics classes work and what children gain from them.

In the session you will:

• see what an ethics class looks like in action

• learn how classes are run and how they start at a school

• have your questions answered

Many parents tell us that the session helps them talk with their children about what they discussed in class, and keep those conversations going at home.

Whether you’re simply curious, want to understand what your child is learning, or are wondering how you could be involved, this session is for you.

Unavailable at this session time? We run these information sessions at different times every month. Click here to see the upcoming schedule.
