In the genre of a graphic memoir, this book uses illustrations and powerful prose to depict author Teresa Wong's exploration through time and place to understand her feelings of disconnection from her parents. Grappling with the complex family dynamics that can exist for children of immigrants, Wong seeks to honor her parents' pasts while trying to carve out a different kind of future for herself. What type of book club vibes can I expect?
- This book club will be more of a casual conversation about the book and how it can connect to our lives, rather than an in-depth literary discussion (though you're welcome to share your literary insights).
What will the event agenda involve?
- For book discussion meetings, most of the meeting will involve breakout groups with instructions and questions provided by the facilitator. There will also be time for all attendees to converse together. For the author discussion, there will be an interview of the author and audience Q&A.
Can I join if I didn't finish the book?
- Absolutely, but we do encourage you to read the book in its entirety for a richer conversation.
Do I have to attend both sessions of a book, i.e. the group discussion AND the author's discussion?
- Nope-feel free to come to either session, or both!
