Event description

Thank you for your interest in Agroforestry Trainings for Natural Resource Professionals. Here, you can register to attend the FREE Alley Cropping Fundamentals workshop. This event will happen rain or shine! Lunch is included.

Alley cropping is the planting of rows of trees and/or shrubs to create alleys within which agricultural or horticultural crops are produced. Trees may include hardwood or softwood timber, fruit and nut trees, or other specialty crop trees and shrubs. It is a lesser known agroforestry practice gaining in popularity with potential for diversifying land use, expanding income potential, and building soil health.

The increasing interest in agroforestry among farmers, landowners, and land managers has produced a growing need for technical assistance. Join us and learn about the principles, design considerations, benefits, and potential challenges associated with alley cropping. Participants will tour a community farm featuring multiple agroforestry practices in Alexander, NC, and learn from the farm manager and expert instructors. The training will also cover site selection and establishment, maintenance, and regional examples.

This workshop has been approved for 5.5 hours CEU credits (NRCS) and 4.0 Cat 1 CFE credits (SAF).

Seats are limited, please contact the event organizers with questions regarding registration availability. When registering, please select the ticket type that most closely matches your organizational affiliation (for example: Extension).
