Lunch + Learn: LGBTQIA+ Allyship in Today's World
Event description
Anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric and discrimination is on the rise – and it can be difficult to know what to do about it. The good news? Everyone can stand alongside their LGBTQIA+ community, colleagues, clients, family and friends. And even small actions make a big difference.
Learn How to Stand Up to Discrimination
Hosted by the Minus18 Education Team, we'll have real-life strategies for standing up to LGBTQIA+ discrimination in today's increasingly divided socio-political climate.
If that sounds intimidating, don't worry. We've designed this to be accessible, fun, engaging – while also filled with real tips and actions.
Hear From a Range of Voices
One of our favourite ways to build understanding and knowledge? Through lived experience stories. Hear real stories of LGBTQIA+ allyship in the workplace, in classrooms, and out in the community from the Minus18 team.
Engage Your Workforce, Team or Cohort
A recent AWEI (Australian Workplace Equality Index) survey reported that LGBTQIA+ employees are now less likely to be out at work than in 2022. We've actually gone backwards.
At the same time, we know that LGBTQIA+ employees are more likely to be engaged and productive at workplaces that actively support them, and stand with the LGBTQIA+ community.
There's a business case to be made for championing inclusion, even in (especially in) times like the ones we're living in now, where so many DEI budgets have been slashed.
Learn What Practical and Meaningful Allyship Looks Like
What does it actually look like to stand with your LGBTQIA+ colleagues, clients or employees? What if you're not confident in your LGBTQIA+ knowledge? How does a workplace or team begin the allyship journey?
In honour of the The International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination – May 17 – we've filled this Lunch + Learn with our best, most practical tips, with the lens of the current socio-political climate of anti-LGBTQIA+ conservatism.
Who is this Lunch + Learn For?
For teams, managers, organisational leaders, teachers, and even family members looking to increase their LGBTQIA+ knowledge. And especially for anyone unsure how to make a difference in their community and stand with LGBTQIA+ folks in the current political climate.
All LGBTQIA+ knowledge levels welcome.
