Alternatives to Supermarkets
Event description
Alternatives to Supermarkets
Amid rising concerns about supermarket prices, products and practices, this interactive session brings together knowledge and experience of sourcing our daily needs from a wide range of alternatives to corporate supermarkets, focusing on options which are local, healthy, sustainable and value for money.
This facilitated workshop will cover:
- Why we seek alternatives to corporate supermarkets
- Overview of alternative option types (including retail shops, services, community resources, personal resources, as well as online options)
- Deep dive on specific sources for daily living products focusing on food (fresh food, pantry items, snacks and drinks) but also considering other consumables such as personal care, cleaning, pets, etc.
the workshop aims to compile a comprehensive resource for our community to find alternatives to the supermarkets to improve local resiliency and health.
We aim to cover the bulk of the content by 3:00, followed by a discussion of barriers to different options, and how they might be resolved.
This class will be held at Waitaki Community Gardens, Chelmer St, Oamaru.
