AMA Council Meeting - June 2026

Join us for an informative and action-focused Council Meeting, covering key updates and priorities for the manufacturing sector.

The agenda will include:

• Insights from the Minister’s Manufacturing Productivity Advisory Group held 18th May

• An update on current initiatives & overview of upcoming projects

• Regional updates from AMA Regional Leads

• Opportunities for member input and engagement. This month: Industry-Led Subjects for Secondary Schools Scoping

  • NCEA is being replaced by a new senior secondary qualification system, which will include industry-led subjects integrated into the curriculum. 

  • The Ministry of Education will be working with Industry Skill Boards to identify and scope quality, relevant industry-led subjects for Years 12 and 13 that are connected to real pathways to work and further study in industry. 

  • The Ministry recently held online information webinars to give industry stakeholders an introduction to industry-led subjects – what they are, how they are intended to work in the new qualification system, and the role of ISBs and industry in informing an initial list of industry-led subjects for development. 

  • Following on from those webinars, we have organised an opportunity for the manufacturing sector to scope out possible subject topics that industry would like to see considered by the Minister for the new curriculum. 

  • This session is to identify the key skills that industry would like to see taught in schools that most represent their industries and could be developed into industry-led subjects. Once this feedback is gathered, a list of possible subjects will be sent to the Minister for consideration, and she will make the decision on what subjects the ISB will develop for the new curriculum. 

  • The discussion will be facilitated by Bill Sole – CEO, Industry Skills Board Manufacturing & Engineering
