Event description

This tailored introductory program has been developed especially for Cruise Welcome and Busselton Jetty Volunteers, though it’s equally valuable for anyone beginning a career in the hospitality or tourism industry across the Margaret River Region. Participants will gain the knowledge, confidence, and communication skills to represent the region with pride and professionalism.

Delivered as part of the Margaret River Workforce Ready Program, supported by Tourism Western Australia, this engaging half-day session combines local insights with visitor engagement techniques to ensure every guest enjoys an authentic and memorable experience.

Participants will:

  • Identify Regional Landmarks – Locate and describe key attractions such as the Cape to Cape Track, limestone caves, lighthouses, Sugarloaf Rock, and the region’s renowned beaches.

  • Understand Regional History – Gain an overview of Indigenous heritage, European settlement, and the evolution of local industries from timber and agriculture to modern tourism.

  • Appreciate Biodiversity & the Natural Environment – Explore the area’s distinctive biodiversity, including old-growth forests, endemic flora and fauna, and marine ecosystems.

  • Discover Local Wine & Produce – Learn about the region’s celebrated food and wine culture, including notable varietals, producers, and must-visit cellar doors.

  • Promote Exceptional Visitor Experiences – Confidently recommend activities such as wine tastings, guided and self-guided trails, whale watching, and Aboriginal cultural experiences.

  • Build Visitor Engagement & Confidence – Develop friendly, informative communication skills to create positive and lasting impressions with visitors.

  • Encourage Sustainability & Cultural Sensitivity – Promote responsible travel practices that support local businesses and respect the region’s cultural and environmental heritage.
