Join us for our indoor Symphonic Concert – Americans We: Illuminating Diversity, at the Latino Cultural Center on Oct 25 at 7:30 PM!

Concerts like these help fund the band, including allowing us to pay for scholarships to members to waive fees or costs related to band travel.

This is also when we will be premiering our collaboration with Deanan’s Gourmet Popcorn, so be sure to come by and check it out!

┍━━━━━»•» These two concerts are part of the Oak Lawn Band’s Fall 2024 project— “An American Tapestry: Illuminating Diversity.” «•«━┑

The selections have been chosen because they highlight progress made by an underserved group or they celebrate diverse groups coming together for the common good.

This includes songs dedicated to –

• The 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City–an important landmark event for LGBT+ rights, and the bravery of trans women, especially Marsha P. Johnson, a prominent figure in the uprising.
• Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
• The anger and hope that fuels protests whether about social justice, racial justice, gender equality, transgender rights.
• Those who do not allow hate and prejudice to guide the way we live our lives.
• The Romeo and Juliet inspired tale about love found between two different ethnic groups that have a long-standing rivalry.

Se eligieron las selecciones porque resaltan el progreso realizado por un grupo desatendido o celebran la unión de grupos diversos por el bien común.

Esto incluye canciones dedicadas a –

• El 50.º aniversario de los disturbios de Stonewall en la ciudad de Nueva York, un evento histórico importante para los derechos LGBT+ y la valentía de las mujeres trans, especialmente Marsha P. Johnson, una figura prominente en el levantamiento.

• Celebre el 50 aniversario del discurso “Tengo un sueño” de Martin Luther King.

• La ira y la esperanza que alimentan las protestas, ya sea sobre justicia social, justicia racial, igualdad de género o derechos de las personas transgénero.

• Aquellos que no permiten que el odio y los prejuicios guíen la forma en que vivimos nuestras vidas.

• La historia inspirada en Romeo y Julieta sobre el amor entre dos grupos étnicos diferentes que tienen una rivalidad de larga data.
