Join us for a special event with one of Britain's most celebrated writers, Andrew O'Hagan, who will speak to Rosemarie Milsom about his extraordinary career and most recent novel Caledonian Road.
In this wide-ranging conversation, O'Hagan will discuss his remarkable body of work, with a focus on his most ambitious novel to date, Caledonian Road. Hailed as a contemporary masterpiece, the novel follows art historian Campbell Flynn through a London of immense wealth, social division, political intrigue and moral uncertainty, offering a gripping portrait of a society at a crossroads.
A masterful portrait of contemporary Britain, Caledonian Road is hilarious, unsettling and deeply humane. It asks urgent questions about privilege and influence, and confirms O'Hagan's standing as one of the finest chroniclers of contemporary life.

About
Andrew O’Hagan has three times been nominated for the Booker Prize and is a winner of the E.M. Forster Prize. His novel Mayflies was adapted by the BBC and his latest, Caledonian Road, a state-of-the-nation epic, was a Sunday Times bestseller. He is Editor at Large of the London Review of Books.
Rosemarie Milsom is the director of Adelaide Writers' Week and founding director of Newcastle Writers Festival.

The Newcastle Library on Laman Street is easily accessible by both light rail and bus. The closest public transport options are: Light Rail (Civic Station): A convenient 9-minute walk (about 670 meters) from the library via Wheeler Place. Bus (Darby Street): Just a 2-minute walk away. Stops at Darby St before Bull St (118 meters) and Newcastle Art Gallery, Darby St (226 meters) are frequently serviced by the 14 bus. Bus (King Street): A 5-minute walk away. Stops at King St before Darby St and University House, King St are serviced by bus routes 11 and 13.
Parking
The closest parking to Newcastle Library (War Memorial Cultural Centre on Laman Street) is limited on-street metered parking along Laman Street and the adjacent Auckland Street. For dedicated off-street facilities, your best options include: Civic Public Car Park: Located right near the library on Laman Street with approximately 74 spaces. Civic West Car Park: A large 470-space multi-story facility located at 291 King Street (entry via Gibson Street).
The Venue
The Newcastle City Library is located in the iconic War Memorial Cultural Centre at 15 Laman Street in the heart of the city, directly opposite Civic Park. The Building & Architecture opened in 1957, the multi-level facility is a striking Modernist structure. Our friendly Volunteers will usher you to the event space.
