We’re thrilled to welcome award-winning U.S. author Charlie Jane Anders to Kinokuniya as part of the Australian tour for her latest novel, Lessons in Magic and Disaster.

In conversation with Sydney-based fantasy author Bronte-Marie Wesson and hosted by fellow author Sarah Street, Charlie Jane will discuss her writing and share a hint or two about her upcoming novel, Good Things Are Coming Your Way.

Join us for an evening of conversation, creativity and a behind-the-scenes look at the work of one of contemporary fantasy’s most exciting voices.

ABOUT LESSONS IN MAGIC AND DISASTER

Jamie’s mother has been hiding in an old one-room schoolhouse for several years, since her life fell apart. But Jamie has a secret: she’s a powerful witch, and now she’s decided to teach Serena to cast spells, so her mother can get her life back.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Charlie Jane Anders has won the Hugo, Nebula, Sturgeon, Lambda Literary, Crawford and Locus Awards. Her novels include Lessons in Magic and Disaster, All the Birds in the Sky, The City in the Middle of the Night, and the young-adult Unstoppable trilogy. She co-created Escapade/Shela Sexton, a transgender superhero, for Marvel Comics and wrote her into the long-running New Mutants comic. She's currently the science fiction and fantasy book reviewer for the Washington Post. With Annalee Newitz, she co-hosts the podcast Our Opinions Are Correct.

Bronte-Marie Wesson is an Australian high fantasy author and content creator. Her dark queer fantasy novel, The Ascension of Souls, was released in March 2026 and is the first in her Broken Cycle trilogy.

Sarah Street is an Australian YA fantasy author. Her novels reinventing classic fairy tales, A Curse of Salt and A Sea of Wolves, were released in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
