An Introduction to Health Literacy for Community Workers
Event description
Health literacy describes the ability to get, understand and act on health information. Without good health literacy, it can be very hard for people to look after their health, care for family or friends, access health services and navigate our health system.
Community workers and organisations have a major role to play in supporting your clients' health literacy. This workshop will support you to:
- Understand what health literacy means
- Know how health literacy affects health outcomes
- Understand your role in supporting your client in the health system
- Recognise the signs someone is experiencing high demands on their health literacy
- Know what questions to ask to get the most out an appointment with a health professional
This workshop is suitable for anyone whose work includes supporting service users to manage or resolve a health issue. This training is specifically designed for community workers living or working in the Australian Capital Territory.
We recognise Zoom can be tiring and there will be breaks and activities to help you stay engaged.
