Event description

Friends of Israel Western Australia is delighted to host an online presentation by:

Itay Gil

Major (res), Counter Terrorism, Security and Aviation Security Expert.

Itay will speak to us about the current situation in Israel, followed by Q&A.

Tuesday 1 July, 7:30pm, Perth Time. (9:30 pm Sydney/Melbourne)

Itay Gil’s experience includes 14 years active duty followed by 30 years service in the reserves. He spent his compulsory military service in Israel's paratrooper reconnaissance company, serving in the 1982 Lebanon War. He then joined the elite counter terrorism warfare unit, Yamam, and took part in hundreds of hostage-rescue and interdiction missions. He later became Yamam's chief close-quarter combat instructor. He continues to serve in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reserves, as senior combat instructor for elite counterterrorism units. In 2002, he formed a special security team for the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

Itay is the founder and chief executive officer of Protect, a Jerusalem-based security training firm. His methods for dealing with suicide bombers have been documented on CNN, Fox and Israeli media.

In 1997, Itay created an in-flight cabin crew training course, the first of its kind. He identified and addressed weaknesses in his Air Safe course that were later exploited by the 9/11 attackers. He was the executive director of all training programs for the Israeli border Police and the undercover Police intelligence unit for 5 years. Itay is the author of “A Citizens Guide to Stopping Suicide Attackers” and he featured on the History Channels Human Weapon Series, and he hosted episode 2 with BBC Special Forces "Ultimate Hell Week" 2015.

Itay’s doctoral research focussed on building resilience in service people, which resulted in his “Crawl, Walk, Run” method, that has been shown to reduce posttraumatic stress in servicepeople.
