Antimicrobial resistance (or AMR for short) is expected to kill 38 million people by 2050. AMR means that bacteria have learned to be resistant to or untouchable by antibiotics or other antimicrobials, and is the reason why we are seeing more an more infections that are now "untreatable". A world in which antibiotics have become ineffective would be truly frightening, and we are at a point where WHO has rung the alarm bell of a post-antibiotic era.
Join us in an epic journey that follows Mallory Smith and her battle with AMR as a cystic fibrosis (CF) patient.
An Unfinished Life: The True Impact of Antibiotic Resistance
Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 3, and a resistance bacterial B. cepacia infection at the age of 15, Mallory turned to a secret diary to record her inner thoughts.
She wrote about her fears, her loves, her pain, her depression, her hopes, and gave a voice to the many millions who struggle with invisible or visible illness. In Mallory's final days, her father uncovered a long-forgotten treatment that is now changing the world of medicine. Heartbreakingly, it came too late to save his daughter.
Using Mallory's treasure trove of writing, and hours of audio and video discovered after her untimely death, Salt in My Soul is a classic coming of age story about choosing to live mindfully and joyously in the face of immense struggle.
De-briefing with AMR experts
