Anchoring Transgenerational Identities: Migration Artefacts Photo Exhibit
Event description
This public photography exhibit sheds light on the complexity of migrant identities in time-space, revealing transgenerational differences in self-perceptions and societal expectations.
The collection of photographs is the culmination of Dr Ana Tankosić's pilot research project, Anchoring Transgenerational Identities: Migration Artefacts and Identity Labels, which sets out to explore how linguistic, cultural, ethno-racial, and religious identifications influence migrants’ "labelling" processes in Australia.
Challenging both Anglo-normative ideologies and utopian trans-practices, the project constitutes a significant step in giving voice and a platform for expression for migrant individuals, and narrows the perceived distance between theory and practice. The project pilot was funded by Curtin Grant Success Oversight Panel (GSOP) in 2024 as part of School of Media, Creative Arts, and Social Inquiry (MCASI).
We warmly welcome Curtin staff, students, and members of the public to view the photography collection at this special launch event. Doors open at 5pm, with a brief welcome at 6pm. Entry is free, but registration via Humanitix is required.
Drinks and nibbles will be provided.
