Event description

We are thrilled to host vocalist Andrea Saposnik and classical guitarist Andrew Marino for an afternoon musical recital like no other. Together, they will perform the following exquisite program:

  • Selected Lieder, by Franz Schubert
  • Speak Love, a song cycle by Frank Wallace
  • Siete Canciones Populares Españolas, by Manuel de Falla
  • Capricho Árabe, by Francisco Tárrega
  • Campanas del Alba, by Eduardo Sainz de la Maza

About Andrea Saposnik

Andrea Saposnik, mezzo-soprano, has performed extensively in opera, oratorio, musical theater, and recitals, and has recorded for the Sony and Naxos Labels.  Her performances include Respighi’s Il Tramonto with string quartet in Arcidosso, Italy, and numerous solo appearances with the Putnam Chorale and the Long Island Choral Society, where she has also served as Artist-in-Residence.  She has been a fellow at the Ravinia Festival and the Bach Aria Festival, and has been a frequent collaborator with members of the Bach Aria Group. 

Also a champion of contemporary music, Andrea has performed world premieres of works by Philippe Treuille, James Cowdery, and Meredith Baker. She holds a Doctorate in Voice from the CUNY Graduate Center, a Master’s in Voice from Yale University, a Bachelor’s in Voice from Oberlin Conservatory, and a Bachelor’s in English from Oberlin College.  In addition, Andrea earned certificates from Justin Stoney’s Voice Teacher Training program; Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Vocal Pedagogy Program; and Shenandoah University’s Contemporary Commercial Music Institute. She is also a certified yoga instructor.

Andrea is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the New York Singing Teachers’ Association (NYSTA). Andrea has maintained a private voice studio in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY since 2003, and she joined the faculty of Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY in 2023. She has also taught at The Masters School, Broadway Training Center, and Greenwich House Music School. A native of Atlanta, GA, Andrea is an avid hiker and fitness enthusiast, and she is a dedicated advocate for animals.  She also loves baking, reading, and walking with her rescue dog, Romeo.

About Andrew Marino

Guitarist and educator Andrew Marino is an ardent performer, frequently performing as part of the Marino Duo (guitar and piano) with his wife, Jessica, across New York State and Western Connecticut. Andrew has performed with dynamic chamber groups at unique concert series including performances for the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York, the International Day of Latin American and Iberian Art Song run by Patricia Caicedo, the Guitar Foundation of America’s Regional Symposium in New York City, the Sowebo Arts and Music Festival, and the Union Square Chamber Music Series in Baltimore, MD. He has also won prizes in both solo and chamber music competitions including Appalachian State University’s GuitarFest solo competition and the Crane School of Music’s chamber music competition.

Andrew is on the guitar faculty of Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY where he runs a robust pre-college classical guitar program. Andrew is also the Chair of District Four of the New York State Music Teachers Association. He is an ardent researcher and lecturer, having given notable lectures at the Guitar Foundation of America’s 2023 International Convention and Competition at Manhattan School of Music, as well as the New York State Music Teachers Association’s 2022 State Conference at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse. He has recently been published in the March 2024 issue of Soundboard: The Journal of the Guitar Foundation of America. His article is titled “Six Cognitive Learning Strategies for Effective Classical Guitar Pedagogy.”

Andrew holds both a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Guitar Performance and a Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance/Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where he studied with renowned performer and pedagogue Julian Gray. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam where he studied with Douglas Rubio. Andrew has also done substantial classical guitar studies with Jeremy Sparks of the Buffalo Guitar Quartet. Andrew has done extensive Suzuki guitar training with MaryLou Roberts, the Chair of the ISA Guitar Committee.
