Treating teen sexual OCD in a world of devices
Dr Danielle Einstein
Sexual obsessions in OCD are increasingly common in teenagers with lockdowns having led to an elevation in the severity of symptoms for OCD. Symptoms include intrusive thoughts about paedophilia, consent, bestiality, and sexual preferences. Devices have increased accessibility to triggers, moral messages from influencers and facilitated checking responses and cyberchondria. In this seminar Danielle will use case presentations to highlight components of therapy to target in treating sexual obsessions in teenagers. There will be a discussion of developments in imaginal exposure, reassurance seeking and other novel strategies to address psychological mechanisms underlying OCD.
