Event description

Asheville, NC-based roots artists Anya Hinkle (vocals, guitar) and Billy Cardine (Dobro) team up for an intimate exploration of acoustic music rooted in the sounds of Appalachia and seasoned by their travels around the globe. Just back from tours in Japan, Denmark, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, and throughout the US and Hawai’i over the past year, this powerful duo showcases a surprisingly dynamic range of styles and influences.

Originally from the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, Anya Hinkle's music is steeped in the tones of folk and mountain music, featuring vivid storytelling, vibrant musicianship, andstriking honesty. Her diverse influences have led her to create a unique form of world-inspired Americana while staying true to her roots. Americana Highways describes her latest album, Oceania (2024, Red Parlor Records), noting,“This North Carolina singer-songwriter has an engagingly smooth-toned classic vocal style with an album that seems to feature pop tunes but doesn’t. She’s the real deal–melodic with rich traditional instincts.”

Billy Cardine has a way with his listeners. His distinctive voice shines through every instrument he plays, every song he composes, and across all the albums he produces. Cardine is recognized as a pioneer of slide guitar, taking the dobro into uncharted genres. You can feel his immense pleasure in taking the audience along for the journey: starting with a gentle float down a river before tossing you into the heart of a raging storm, only to leave you bewildered on the other side, wondering what just happened. Cardine's patchwork of diverse musical influences enhances his chameleonic ability to blend seamlessly with any collaboration he undertakes, whether onstage or in the studio. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, the Ryman Auditorium, and major festivals like Bonnaroo, Merlefest, and Rockygrass. As an internationally featured artist, he has toured in India, Japan, Europe, and Canada.
