ANZDATA 50th Anniversary Symposium
Celebrating 50 years of Impact
In 1977, ANZDATA began collecting data on kidney replacement therapy across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Fifty years later, that data has shaped clinical practice, informed policy, and improved outcomes for hundreds of thousands of patients.
The ANZDATA 50th Anniversary Symposium brings the renal community together to mark that milestone and look to what comes next. Over two days at SAHMRI in Adelaide, you'll hear from leading clinicians, researchers, and international voices covering the full breadth of kidney replacement therapy and the impact that ANZDATA and its collaborators have had.

Lineup
Professor Stephen McDonald AM
Professor Stephen McDonald has been at the heart of ANZDATA for more than two decades, serving as Executive Officer since 2006. A nephrologist and clinical epidemiologist, his research spans the epidemiology of kidney disease, Registry-based clinical trials, and equitable access to transplantation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In 2025 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to kidney medicine as an administrator, researcher, and clinician. There are few people better placed to open our 50th Anniversary Symposium and reflect on what ANZDATA has built, and where it goes from here.
Associate Professor Phil Clayton
Dr Phil Clayton is a senior consultant nephrologist and epidemiologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, with deep roots in ANZDATA stretching back to his time as the Registry's Epidemiology Fellow. As ANZDATA's Technical Director, he edits the annual report, supervises statisticians and the Epidemiology Fellow, and leads technical development, including overseeing the recent database modernisation that now supports the BEST-Fluids and RESOLVE multinational registry randomised trials.
Dr Georgina Irish
Dr Georgina Irish is ANZDATA's Director of Projects and Analytics, Co-chair of the ANZOD Working Group, Executive Director of the Transplant Epidemiology Group (TrEG), and a Nephrologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Georgina joined ANZDATA originally as the Clinical Epidemiology Fellow back in 2021 and transitioned to Director of Analytics and Reporting and Analytics in 2022. Dr Irish contributes internationally to registry science as a member of the International Society of Nephrology sharing expertise to support the set-up of Renal Registries (SharE-RR) committee and the Transplant Society Global Data harmonisation committee. Dr Irish provides clinical input and epidemiological expertise to the registry team.

Join us for a celebratory dinner at the stunning Mortlock Chamber of the State Library of South Australia on North Terrace, one of Adelaide's most iconic venues. Dinner tickets for registered attendees and additional tickets for extra guests can be purchased on registration.

Registration is priced by ticket type and can be purchased as the full event bundle, per day, or without the dinner.
