Event description

Mike Whitby is a member of the strata committee at The Galleria strata building consisting of 64 apartments in Woolloomooloo. Since 2016 when participating in the City of Sydney Green Building Grants program, the Galleria has been on an energy efficiency, decarbonisation and electrification journey. Come along to find out how the Galleria saved energy in the common areas with LED lighting upgrades, a small heat pump, decommissioning of a central cooling tower on the roof and becoming the first strata building in the City of Sydney to retrofit solar and batteries. The Galleria has reduced its common area electricity costs by 72%. When formally audited under the NABERS for Apartment Buildings rating program this strata building has increased its NABERS for Apartment Buildings Energy Rating from 0 stars to 4.5 stars, on a scale where 0 is poor, 3 is average and 6 is market leading. It has also improved its NABERS for Apartment Buildings water rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. Come and find out how the Galleria was able to save over 76 tonnes of carbon per annum through upgrades in its common areas. Find out what their future plans are in terms of EV charging infrastructure and solar sharing into the apartments.
