APHASIA: Saturday August 30th, 7pm
Event description
Hayes Street Studio presents APHASIA a night of chamber music that uncovers whimsy and imagination in unexpected places. Featuring leading Australian performers Elizabeth Jigalin, oboist Phoebe Xu, bassoonist Todd Gibson-Cornish alongside co-directors Lee Dionne and Rosie Gallagher, the night will hold trippy wind writing in Harry Sdraulig's Hat-trick (2020), Mark Applebaum's unique performance work Aphasia (2009) which he describes as a depiction of “expressive paralysis". There will also be a splash from John Cage's Living Room Music (1940), Thomas Adès Darknesse Visible (1992), Antal Dorati's pièces pour le hautbois seul (1980) and some delight in Poulenc’s Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano (1924).
