Event description

Join us online to hear from the next generation of the power sector's leaders (participants in the API's annual Summer School) as they share their recommendations in response to the Strategic Challenge Questions posed by the 10x Executives who contributed to our Executive Insights series.

Our ~45 Summer School participants will present, in groups of 4-5 people, in 15 mins on the following:

  1. An Executive Summary of the Challenge and your response (see the summaries for 2022 projects here)
  2. What are the major factors contributing to the Challenge?
  3. What are the major issues and stakeholders impacted by the Challenge?
  4. What is the current state of play?
  5. What are your recommendations for action (and for which stakeholders)?
  6. What workforce and skills gap issues can you identify and any suggestions for remediating actions by individuals (e.g., grads, students, PhDs) and organisations/employers and/or universities?

How to access the online webinar of the presentations:

Register for this event and we will provide you with the log in details for the Zoom webinar approximately 1 day before the event. Zoom details now also available in the Virtual Events Hub once you book your ticket.

We will also send out details of the Sli.do online polling and Q&A platform (that we'll use to capture questions and feedback from our online audience).

Is there a live event and audience:

There will be a live audience for the Strategic Project presentations of ~100 people, made up of the ~45 participants in the 2-week residential Summer School (50% women) and the ~60 undergraduate and graduate participants in the API's Powerful Women Leadership Program Early Career stream (who are attending a live 4-day Retreat linked to the end of the Summer School). The API's Board and other stakeholders will also be in the live audience.

The online audience will include participants in the API's online-only Executive Insights Early Career stream and in the API/Engineers Australia Graduate Learning Program for Power and Renewable Energy.

We're also inviting alumni of the Summer School, staff from our member organisations, undergraduate students in our and an online audience on the following:

About the Strategic Challenge Projects:

The Strategic Challenge projects (also known as Syndicate projects) are an important part of the Summer School, assisting participants in reflecting on the information shared by speakers, prompting them to connect with their fellow participants, developing their knowledge in new areas and strengthening their teamwork and communication skills.

The Syndicate projects are undertaken in groups of 5-6 people from across the School. The groups are formed before the start of the School based on the participant's interests in the 10x Challenge Questions from each of our 10x Executives who speak in the earlier online Executive Insights program.

Participants work in their groups during time scheduled in the School program and a limited amount of ‘after hours’ activity to jointly author a response to the Challenge question and Project brief.

You’ll have an opportunity for 1-on-5 discussions with your Executive (or their representative) and they’ll also provide feedback on your draft Board Briefing paper.

Aside from the learning and development gained working through the Syndicate Projects, the outputs of the participants efforts will impact a wide audience from the original 10x Executives that set the initial Challenges to an audience of undergraduates and graduates who will watch the live presentations, read the written briefs and asks question!
