    Perfectionism: An Integrated Conceptual Model

    Eileen Seah
    Clinical Psychologist

About this webinar: Perfectionism can be a difficult issue in therapy, both in terms of its intransigence
and its effect on the treatment process; and exacerbated by how perfectionism has been shown in
research to be increasing over time. It is now generally agreed upon by researchers and clinicians that
perfectionism is a multidimensional construct—posited as a transdiagnostic process underlying many
disorders. In this webinar, Eileen will present an integrated conceptual model focused on signature
features/expressions of multidimensional perfectionism. The model is drawn from several theoretical
models of perfectionism and therapeutic modalities, as well as informed by her own clinical practice. The
webinar aims to offer a more integrated approach for practitioners to bridge different therapeutic
approaches; to formulate and customise treatment to their client’s context and presentation.

    About the presenter
: Eileen Seah is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience in the treatment
of anxiety and perfectionism. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney investigating
multidimensional perfectionism and the self, namely self-criticism, self-compassion and self-concept
clarity. She applies an integrated approach in her clinical work by drawing from several therapeutic
modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy,
compassion-focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and EMDR, amongst others. She has worked
in diverse therapy settings such as Macquarie University’s Centre for Emotional Health, counselling
services at several universities, outpatient and inpatient hospital units, and in private practice. Eileen
provides supervision to practitioners working with adult clients whose lives are negatively impacted by
unrelenting standards and maladaptive perfectionism, as well as other clinical and professional issues.
