Appealinna - A Battle of Wills Heritage Walk

Event description

Join the Friends of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park for a fascinating insight into the early pastoral and mining history of the Flinders Ranges and learn about the Friends efforts to preserve and restore this significant heritage site.

Appealinna was the site of a permanent waterhole in the Flinders Ranges so it was logical for Joseph Wills to take up a pastoral lease there in 1856. Soon after the Wills family established their home, copper miners arrived and built a small settlement on the opposite side of the creek from the Wills homestead. Squatter and miner both wanted access to the permanent water. The dispute raged for thirteen years until Joseph Wills took the law into his own hands. Find out what he did to earn a stretch in Yatala Prison.

Members from the friends group will be on site between 10am and 3pm.
